In addition to warning that he will hit the panic button if the surge in the Covid-19 pandemic doesn’t flatten by mid-month (see story page one), Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro is calling on the mayors of the state’s major tourist destinations to tighten the screws on enforcement of disease prevention measures.
The governor laid down the law in a July 8 live meeting with the mayors of Chapala, Jocotepec, Tequila, Tapalpa, San Juan de los Lagos, Zapopan and Guadalajara, with virtual attendance of those from other tourist towns. His announcement came on the heels of a notable increase in the flow of tourism last weekend in municipalities popular for recreational activities.
Alfaro stressed that the use of face masks is now mandatory in all public spaces and business locales, noting that anyone who does not comply will be subject to “administrative sanctions,” without specifying exactly what the penalties will be.
