Mayors have some flexibility in Covid-19 decision-making

Mayors in Jalisco’s 125 municipalities are free to impose any additional restrictions they feel are necessary to reduce Covid-19 infections in their communities, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said on Wednesday.

pg2bHis comments came after Tapalpa Mayor Luz Elvira Manzano Ochoa had seemingly decreed an after-dark curfew in the popular tourist town located 70 miles southwest of Guadalajara.  The State Human Rights Commission had immediately raised concerns after hearing of the measure.

Alfaro said the state government will “respect” decisions such as those taken by the Tapalpa presidente municipal, just as long as they abide by the general provisions dictated by the state’s coronavirus health board.
