How another Jalisco lockdown would play out

With Covid-19 infections surging across Europe and in many U.S. states, nobody should feel immune to the possibility of further lockdowns.

Here in Jalisco authorities are committed to ordering another shutdown should the number of infections rise above 400 per million or hospital-bed capacity exceeds one-third.

This week, however, the state government clarified that a new lockdown will be less severe than the one that rocked the economy in April and May. Instead of a total shutdown, non-essential business and social activities would be suspended on weekday nights only, and throughout the weekend. In Guadalajara, and everywhere else in the state except Puerto Vallarta, activities will stop between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and from Friday evening all the way through to early Monday morning. Public transportation networks would close  each day at 8 p.m.

Religious services and sports and cultural events would not be permitted during restricted hours. Access to beaches will be from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sundays and Mondays.
