New Jalisco lockdown has unintended consequences

The application of new Covid-19 mitigation measures (boton de emergencia) over a two-week period may have reduced conglomerations of people on weekends, but there have been various unintended consequences at other times, attracting crowds in certain locations, which are actually more saturated than before.

pg11cOne of the locations is Guadalajara’s wholsesale market (Mercado de Abastos), which is among commercial sites that have to close to the public on Saturdays and Sundays.

The upshot is that on Monday, when the market’s doors open again, there was a massive influx of customers – almost one-third more the regular daily total of around 70,000 visitors. Maintaining safe distancing was almost impossible, visitors said.
