Pharmacies keen to sell & apply Covid vaccines

Federal government authorization permitting, pharmacies such as Farmacias Guadalajara, Farmacias del Ahorro and Farmacias Benavides may soon be administering the Covid-19 vaccination to the general public.

Speaking at a trade event this week, Vicente Yáñez, president of the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (Antad), said allowing pharmacies to sell and administer the vaccine would augment the government’s inoculation program and bring a speedier end to the pandemic.

“In the United States there is a large chain of pharmacies that is doing this with great success,” Yáñez pointed out. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has said he hasn’t ruled out the vaccine being offered in the private sector. Although only health professionals are permitted to give the vaccine, the three aforementioned drugstore chains operate small consulting rooms at many of their branches, staffed by qualified doctors.
