Deaths at care homes up to 25

The Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) says 19 Covid-19 outbreaks have occurred in six homes for the elderly (asilos) since the start of the pandemic.

pg4The agency’s official running total of confirmed cases at care homes in the state is 258, while 25 residents have died from the disease.  (These figures are certainly higher, given that federal health authorities admit the contagion rate in the country is probably ten times higher than the official data.)

Fourteen of the fatalities were residents  at a single rest home: the Hogar de Ancianos Residencial San José, located in Zapopan. In total, 46 of the  home’s 84 residents have tested positive for Covid, the SSJ says.

This week, the Jalisco state government issued details of  findings gathered during visits last year to 43 of the 193 asilos registered in the state. All the visits were supervised by the Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks of the State of Jalisco (Coprisjal).
