Jalisco seeing falling case & hospitalization numbers

Following similar trends in the United States and other Mexican states, Covid-19 hospitalizations in Jalisco have dropped in the past two weeks, leading to speculation that Governor Enrique Alfaro is ready to lift the restrictions imposed over the past month.

pg2bAlfaro is expected to make an announcement on the latest strategy to confront the pandemic on Friday, February 12. A few “insiders” appeared to have jumped the gun on Thursday.  A representative of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara said he expected Masses to resume with a maximum capacity of 50 percent this weekend.

The governor is likely to be swayed by improved data on the disease. Between January 28 and February 7, the number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 decreased by 18 percent, state health data shows. The statewide tally of occupied beds on February 7 stood at 1,645, down from 2,013 ten days earlier.
