The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) are treating the death of the mayor of the Jalisco town of Casimiro Castillo, Alfredo Sevilla, as a murder inquiry.
The body of Sevilla, who is on a leave of absence from his post, was found in his car, which had fallen into a ravine on the highway from Casimiro Castillo to Autlán de Navarro.
At first, authorities believed it was an accident and the mayor had either fallen asleep at the wheel or veered off the road in error. But when rescue teams reached the wreckage, they found Sevilla had been shot several times in the head.
