Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro announced new measures Wednesday to slow down the spread of Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations in the state.
The steps include reducing the indoor and outdoor capacity for social events and gatherings, as well as further limiting seating capacity in restaurants to allow for better social distancing.
The governor said the measures, which come into effect on Friday, July 30, are necessary to “avoid Jalisco getting put up against the ropes” from the pandemic’s third wave pandemic.
In a move that will displease the younger sector of the population, Alfaro ordered all bars and clubs in Jalisco to close during August.
The governor explained that his government’s chief priority is to make sure students return to classes safely at the end of August.
The recent growth in Covid infections has been driven by younger, unvaccinated people, health authorities say. They have identified clubs and bars as the major hotspots for Covid-19 transmission.
