Medical personnel recognized

Eighty-one medical personnel from Jalisco last week received the Miguel Hidalgo Medal in recognition of their labors during the pandemic. This is one of the country’s highest awards for citizens who have contributed their service for the good of the nation.

“These women and men have set an example … by putting the care of the people of Jalisco first, and even their own lives,” Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said at a ceremony held at his official Casa Jalisco residence.

One of the recipients, Luis Alberto Romero Padilla, coordinator of the Covid-19 area at the Hospital General de Occidente, said the fight against the virus has been about teamwork, and that he shares the award with all his colleagues. “We are not heroes, we are doctors,” he said.  Romero said that after 20 months treating the disease, the most important thing he has learned is to enjoy every minute with his family.
