In compliance with guidelines issued by Jalisco health authorities due to the recent uptick in coronavirus infections, the Chapala government called off the festivities scheduled for News Year’s Eve.
The last-minute cancellation was announced by Mayor Alejandro Aguirre in a Facebook video posted at around 5 p.m. on December 31. The program that was to take place in front of City Hall included artificial snowstorms and live musical entertainment throughout the evening, and a countdown to midnight capped off with fireworks.
Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro likewise cancelled the end-of-year celebration in Guadalajara.
Although Puerto Vallarta’s government officially cancelled its New Year’s Eve bash, only the musical happenings were actually scrapped. A ten-minute fireworks display drew a crowd of approximately 8,000 spectators.
