Murder and mayhem strike Jocotepec government

Criminal violence took a heavy toll on the Jocotepec government last week when a City Hall official and two local police officers were shot and killed in separate incidents.

pg5Alejandro Sigala Molina, director of the municipal water department, was assassinated the night of Wednesday, March 9, while driving a pickup truck bearing Jocotepec government insignia in his home town of El Salto.

Paramedics arriving at the scene found Sigala already dead from gunshot wounds to the chest and upper left side of his body. A female passenger identified as his spouse was given medical attention for bullet wounds to her backside.

According to the preliminary investigation carried out by agents of the state Public Prosecutors’ office in El Salto, witnesses reported that the couple were attacked by two men riding a motorcycle who sped away after shooting the victims at close range. Forensic experts collected 9-millimeter caliber shell casings at the scene.

The following evening, March 10, a convoy of hitmen ambushed Jocotepec first responders attending an automobile accident on Highway 15 to Morelia west of Jocotepec, near the unpaved road to Zapotitlán de Hidalgo.
