Determined women continue their search for missing relatives

Members of brigades searching last week for disappeared relatives in the Tlajomulco municipality say they have found indications of clandestine gravesites at several properties.

The collectives, led by the Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, returned to abandoned properties they had first examined on their last visit to Jalisco, more than a month ago.

At least one of the sites has been cordoned off by the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office (FGE), whose agents will be responsible for handling the properties and the exhumation of any corpses discovered. However, a judge must first issue a search warrant for the property.

In total, the searchers, mostly women who include mothers of disappeared people,  examined 97 properties, as well as vacant lots, and collected 22 bags of “clues,” suggesting the possible presence of clandestine burial sites from eight locations.
