Canadian child found alive with dead father in holiday home

A Canadian man who had rented a vacation property in the Villanova subdivision in Jarretaderas, Nayarit, together with his five-year-old son, was discovered lifeless by the owner of the house.

The former partner of John Poulson, 44, and the mother of the child, became concerned after he failed to answer her calls from Canada.

According to various reports, after repeatedly knocking on the front door, the property’s owner, also a Canadian, entered the home to discover an horrendous scene.  He found Poulson lying face up on a bed, with the child beside him, clinging to his body. There was a strong odor of putrefaction in the house, reports said.

The owner immediately called 911. Municipal police officers were the first to arrive, followed by Civil Protection paramedics, who declared Poulson dead.

The child was left in the custody of the property owner until the mother arrived from Canada.

Forensic experts have carried out a full autopsy, while the Nayarit Attorney General’s Office initiated investigations into the fatality.
