Relatives, friends and neighbors of three young women and a man who disappeared while returning from the municipality of Jerez, Zacatecas to Colotlán, Jalisco on December 25 marched on the streets of Guadalajara Monday, January 2 to highlight the case and urge Jalisco authorities to pressure their Zacatecas counterparts into ramping up the investigation.
According to the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office, sisters Daniela and Viviana Márquez Pichardo, aged 31 and 27, their cousin Irma Paola Vargas Montoya, 26, and Daniela’s fiancé José Melesio Gutiérrez Padilla, 36 (also a U.S. citizen), were last seen in Jerez, about 60 kilometers from the capital of Zacatecas. However, one of the women shared her location on GPS around midnight on December 25 in Tepetongo, a municipality on the border of Zacatecas and Jalisco that is known for its insecurity.
