High-flying tequila sector hails governor

Jalisco’s tequila empresarios have recognized the contribution of Governor Enrique Alfaro to the record-breaking growth in the sector registered during his administration.

This week, Alfaro received the “El Águila en vuelo” Award from Miguel Ángel Domínguez, president of the Tequila Regulatory Council, who praised the governor for achieving what “no other state government has ever done.”  Alfaro said the success of the sector has been due to the “implementation of a strategy with a long-term vision” that goes “beyond the individual interests of a company or a business.” Domínguez said that despite the pandemic, the tequila sector has enjoyed had its best ever period of growth in terms of agave cultivation, and tequila production and exports.

Domínguez said there are currently 36,000 registered agave producers and more than 100,000 families that depend on this agro industry.
