Classes in Jalisco to end June 29

Most basic education students (preschool, primary and secondary) enrolled at Jalisco public schools will be able to start their summer vacations three weeks earlier than the date established in the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) calendar.

A few weeks ago, SEP announced that classes will officially end on July 19, instead of July 26, as originally determined at the start on the academic year.

However, education authorities in many Mexican states have announced they will be bringing forward the end of their school cycles. Jalisco Education Secretary Juan Carlos Flores Miramontes said students who have successfully completed their studies to the required level will have their final day of classes on June 29.

Students who have fallen behind in their studies will continue to attend classes through July 14 to take them up to speed, and allow them to progress to the subsequent grade in the coming school year.

Certificates confirming successful completion of the academic cycle will be distributed from July 14 to 19.

Private schools may operate on a different schedule.

The summer vacation period will run through the end of August.  The date of the 2023-24 school year has yet to be announced but is expected to be August 28.
