Leprosy alert in 3 Jalisco municipalities

Three of 12 municipalities in the country classified as “a priority for leprosy” by the federal Ministry of Health (SSA) are in the state of Jalisco.

The criteria for inclusion in this category is an elevated presence of the disease per 10,000 inhabitants. There are currently 300 people being treated for leprosy in Mexico in 28 states,” according to to the SSA.

The Jalisco municipalities on the “priority” list are Texcacuesco, San Sebastián del Oeste and San Cristóbal de la Barranca. The others are in the states of Oaxaca, Morelos, Nuevo León, Sinaloa and Yucatan.
