Thieves grab 2 million pesos in street attack

According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), tropical wave No. 20 associated with a low pressure zone with a probability of cyclonic development southwest of the coast of Jalisco will increase the probability of very heavy rains in many parts of the state on Friday, August 11.

A man who reportedly withdrew two million pesos (US$117,0000) in cash from a Guadalajara bank branch was attacked and robbed of his stash at the intersection of avenidas Circunvalación and Ávila Camacho on Thursday, August 10.

Although few details of the incident reached the ears of news reporters, a large police presence was reported at the alleged scene of the crime in Colonia Jardines del Country.

These kinds of assaults, often referred to as asaltos conojeros in Spanish, have become more common in recent years, even though authorities plead with bank customers to avoid making large withdrawals.

Most Tapatios theorize that criminals receive “insider tipoffs” from staff working inside banks. If this is the case, however, it is unlikely banks would be prepared to reveal any details, as doing so would certainly undermine the confidence of their customers.
