The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on five individuals, four of whom are believed to be top leaders of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), including its alleged leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” a fugitive who carries a bounty of US$15 million on his head.
These sanctions target Julio Alberto Castillo Rodríguez (“El Chorro”), Oseguera’s son-in-law and potential successor; Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytán (“El Sapo”), noted for directing mass recruitment efforts: Audias Flores Silva (“El Jardinero”), accused of overseeing clandestine methamphetamine labs; and Ricardo Ruiz Velasco, a senior CJNG lieutenant close to El Mencho known as “RR.”. The sanctions involve freezing all assets and shares held by these individuals in the United States.
