Big Brother is watching: Jalisco government plans surveillance overhaul

The Jalisco government is committing more than six billion pesos (US$301 million) to build a new Video Surveillance Center in Guadalajara’s Providencia neighborhood, along with advanced upgrades to the state’s security and cybersecurity systems.

pg6aCurrently, the C5 Escudo Jalisco video surveillance network operates in only 15 of the state’s 125 municipalities. The new expansion will extend coverage to 40 municipalities and increase the number of cameras from 7,000 to 10,500—reaching about 80 percent of Jalisco’s population.
