A group of 62 Jalisco firefighters were given a warm welcome back in Guadalajara this week after spending 41 days battling forest fires in the Canadian province of Alberta.

Jalisco Governor Artistoteles Sandoval Diaz and his wife Lorena Jassibe Arriaga, honorary president of the Family Development Agency (DIF), greeted 21 older Jalisco athletes who are part of the Mexican delegation competing in the XXI World Masters Athletics Championships in Lyon, France from August 4 to 16.

The cost of fines imposed for traffic violations is determined under guidelines contained in Section Seven, Chapter II of Jalisco’s Ley de Movilidad y Transporte. The rates are based multiples on the official per diem salario mínimo (minimum wage), currently set at 70.10 pesos for the Guadalajara metro area and 68.28 for other Jalisco municipalities. 

Of the 326,000 people who have been asked to take a DUI alcohol breath test since the Salvando Vidas program was introduced in Jalisco in November 2103, 97 percent have come through with flying colors.  The three percent who failed the test have either paid a hefty fine or spent up to 36 hours in jail to sober up.

Citizens demanding the removal of state police from their towns may have been paid by criminal gangs to stage a protest outside the State Government Palace in Guadalajara Wednesday.

So far this year, the Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) has reported 48 cases of chikungunya in the state, registered in Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, La Huerta, Cuautitlán and Tomatlán.
