Opera returns to Degollado stage Sept. 23 & 25

Opera addicts can get their first fix of the year when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” is staged at Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado next weekend.

Directed by Allen Vladimir Gomez, the opera features the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and the Zapopan Municipal  Choir led by Flavio Beccera, a well-known baritone who will also be taking one of the minor parts.

Some top Mexican talent has been hired for this opera. Playing the principal part of Pamina will be Florencia Tinoco, a Guadalajara-born soprano who studied for four years in Austria and has been impressing audiences in Mexico, the United States and Europe for more than a decade.  Ricardo Rodriguez, who plays Tamino, began his professional career in 1991 and is a veteran of dozens of operas.

“The Magic Flute” is a Masonic, mythical tale in two acts, composed in 1791. There will be just two performances: on Friday, September 23, 8.30 p.m. and Sunday, September 25, 12.30 p.m.

Tickets, which range from 150-500 pesos, can be purchased online at  www.ticketmaster.com.mx or at the Teatro Degollado box office from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
