Mariachi opera
Commissioned by the Houston Grand Opera, “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” tells the story of Mexican migrants chasing the “American Cream.” Written by Pepe Martínez y Leonard Foglia, the opera has more than 50 performers on stage, as well as the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán and Mariachi Juvenil de mi Tierra.

GR RECOMMENDS : Portugal at the FIL
Portugal’s music program at the International Book Fair (FIL) will be held both at the Foro FIL (at the entrance to Exo Guadalajara) and other venues in the city. The Foro will host nine consecutive (free) nights of Portuguese musicians (Saturday, November 24 through Sunday, December 2, 9 p.m.), including shows by Ana Bacalhau, Gil do Carmo, Amor Electro, Camané, Capicua, Dead Combo, Luís Represas, Moonspell and Kátia Guerreiro. Some will be accompanied by Mexican musicians, including Lila Downs, Miguel Inzunza, the group Hello Seahorse, Paloma del Río, Ugo Rodríguez and Pascual Reyes from the band San Pascualito Rey. Additional shows in the Portuguese music program (see items on this page) include a concert by fado singer Ricardo Ribeiro, “Toada de Portalegre,” accompanied by Jalisco’s Philharmonic Orchestra; a guitar concert by José Manuel Neto and a concert by singer Teresa Salgueiro.
