Dance Ritual

FESTIVAL DE MAYO. A unique collaboration, co-directed by Australia’s Lucy Guerin and Gideon Obarzanek and commissioned by contemporary dance company Dancenorth with Indonesia’s tour-de-force music duo, Senyawa. This ecstatic dance ritual draws the audience and performers together into a unique trance-noise odyssey.

Homage

A Mother’s Day special featuring the music of three greats of Mexican music: Agustin Lara, Jose Alfred Jimenez and Juan Gabriel. An orchestra, a mariachi band and a trio interpret a selection of much-loved works. The show also includes folk dancing.

Live from the Met

The Teatro Diana hosts the final simulcast of the Metropolitan Opera 2018-19 season: — Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites.  Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the classic John Dexter production of Poulenc’s devastating story of faith and martyrdom. Mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard sings the touching role of Blanche and soprano Karita Mattila, a legend in her own time, returns to the Met as the Prioress.

Benny Benack III Quartet

U.S. jazz trumpeter and singer Benny Benack is the latest figure to visit the city in the Jazz at Lincoln Center series sponsored by the Universidad de Guadalajara. Hailed by the New York Times as “a charismatic young trumpeter who maintains an earnest sideline as a singer,” Benack has quickly established himself as one of the most versatile and virtuosic voices of his generation.

William Barton

FESTIVAL DE MAYO.  A concert featuring this aboriginal didgeridoo player from Mount Isa, Queensland who learned to play the instrument from his uncle, an elder of the Wannyi, Lardil and Kalkadunga tribes. Barton is widely recognized as one of Australia’s finest didgeridoo players and the leading player in the classical world.  Also featuring an ensemble made up of Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra players.
