San Francisco ballet troupe eyes local talent

Talented local dancers dreaming of a professional career are getting the opportunity to audition for one of the leading ballet companies in the United States.

pg6The San Francisco Ballet will be holding auditions in Guadalajara in July, coinciding with another performance of Despertares Mexico, the series put together by Tapatio ballet star Isaac Hernandez, a principal dancer with the English National Ballet.

A strong connection has been forged between Guadalajara and the San Francisco troupe. Hernandez’s younger brother Esteban is now a principal with the San Francisco Ballet, and Isaac also performed with them earlier in his career.

Despertares Mexico is scheduled at the Auditorio Telmex on Saturday, July 20, 8:30 p.m. In addition to the Hernandez brothers, the audience will get to see cameos by world-class ballet dancers, including Francesca Hayward, a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet in London, and Alina Cojocaru, a principal with the English National Ballet.
