Talented musicians of different genres showcased each Monday. September 9: The Juan Castañón jazz trio. September 16: Dans les Arbres, a French-Norwegian jazz/folk combo. September 23: Homage to three Latin American trova greats: Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Amaury Pérez. Interpreted by Tapatia singer Marissa, along with invited musicians. Musical Tuesdays
The Jalisco Culture Department has teamed up with the Palacio de la Cultura y la Comunicación (Palcco) in Zapopan to offer further musical options for residents and visitors to Guadalajara. Through October 14, some of Palcco’s regular Monday evening recitals will be repeated the following day at either the Teatro Degollado or the Teatro Alarife. The cost of each performance is 100 pesos and tickets can be purchased at the door. All the recitals will start at 8:30 p.m. and last for one hour with no interval.

Mumford & Sons
British folk/rock band formed in 2007 shot to fame on both sides of the Atlantic after the release of their award winning first album Sigh No More (2009) that included favorites such as “Winter Winds” and “Little Lion Man.” Three more top-selling albums followed – Babel (2012), Wilder Mind (2015) and Delta (2018) – plus a string of more prizes.

Jerome Jennings Quartet
The Jazz At Lincoln Center series continues with a performance by a quartet led by drummer Jerome Jennings who has played every major jazz club in New York City from The Village Vanguard, Birdland and The BlueNote, to Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola. Internationally he’s performed in over 45 countries. In the fall of 2017, Jennings accepted the position as resident director of The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra.

Cirque du Soleil
“Crystal” is a Cirque du Soleil production that combines theatrics and acrobatics with ice-skating for the first time. Crystal, the main character, is a young woman who falls through the ice and discovers her own creativity. The show features 43 artists, including 19 figure skaters, 20 acrobats, aerialists and gymnasts, three musicians, a juggler and a comic combining multiple disciplines.

GR RECOMMENDS: Dialogue
Dialogue, a duo formed of U.S. jazz pianist Myra Melford and clarinetist Ben Goldberg, present a concert of avant-garde, melodic, exploratory and lyrical compositions. A 2013 Guggenheim Fellow, Melford was described by the San Francisco Chronicle as an “explosive player, a virtuoso who shocks and soothes, and who can make the piano stand up and do things it doesn’t seem to have been designed for.” Meanwhile, Goldberg has established himself as “one of the most vibrant, flexible, and inventive clarinetists in jazz and improvised music,” says Downbeat, and “an artist who seems to find beautiful melodies at the end of every path,” according to NPR.
