May Festival goes digital

Culture in Jalisco hasn’t closed down because of the health emergency.

pg7cOrganizers of Guadalajara’s annual May Cultural Festival have been busy moving the event online and even setting up exclusive content.  The digital festival will feature more than 64 events spread over 40 hours, to be broadcast on the festival’s website and YouTube between May 8 and 31.

As usual, the 23rd edition of the festival will be split into various sections. This year’s themes are dance, Beethoven’s Sonatas, music, circus, talks, artistic formation, alternative culture and the plastic arts.  Exclusive content features three artists from Jalisco, three companies from Canada and a highly respected pianist from Wales (LIyr Williams, who will perform all 32 of Beethoven’s sonatas on May 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 28 and 31, all at 8 p.m.).

The province of Quebec has enjoyed a long relationship with the May Festival and this year presents two contemporary dance works: “9” by Cas Public on May 8, 8 p.m.; and ”The Scream of the Jellyfish” by Alan Lake Factori(e) on May 22 and 23, 8 p.m.
