State orchestra to give live concerts

After a gap of more than a year, the state-run Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) is prepping to perform in front of a live audience.

pg5bAlthough their regular home, the elegant Degollado Theater, is still off limits to the public, the orchestra will give three open-air performances in the Naranjos patio of the Instituto Cultural Cabañas in downtown Guadalajara on Thursdays, May 6, 13 and 20.

Each show will cap its audience at 180 persons. Tickets cost 300 pesos, and are available online at voyalteatro.com, or the Cabañas Museum ticket office.

The May 6 concert will feature works by Handel, Pachelbel, Sarrier and Mozart, while the program on May 13 includes pieces by A. Márquez, Beethoven, Scheidt, Wagner and E. Crespo.

On the program for the final performance in the series on May 20 will be works by H. Ruvalcaba, Saint Saens and Dvorak.

OFJ Musical Director Jesus Medina will conduct the May 6 and 20 concerts, while no one is yet named to lead the May 13 performance.
