New ballet troupe to make its debut on July 3

The newly formed Metropolitan Ballet of Guadalajara will present two performances at a gala featuring 40 dancers, scheduled Saturday, July 3, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Teatro “Ignacio López Tarso” in Guadalajara.

pg5bThis company arose from the need to create opportunities for independent dancers in Guadalajara lacking job security within the professional field. The main objective of the troupe, say its founders, is to provide the public with access to shows of the highest quality by presenting local, national and international artists in each of their productions.

Guest artists from companies such as Armonium Dance and the Ballet de Jalisco will also perform at the July 3 gala, which will include pieces from the classical repertoire and unpublished neoclassical choreographies.

The capacity of the “Ignacio López Tarso” Theater is 566 seats. Due to the health emergency and the protocols imposed by the Jalisco government, the only 283 patrons will be allowed in for each performance.

Lakeside residents will have the chance to purchase tickets for either of the shows. They will be on sale near the ATM at the Lake Chapala Society on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Those who would like transportation to Guadalajara for the show can also leave their name at the same time.
