Gay Games committee inspects city

Jalisco government officials last week welcomed the organizing committee of the Gay Games, a worldwide sport and cultural event featuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) athletes, artists and other individuals, which promotes the acceptance of sexual diversity.

Guadalajara is one of three shortlisted cities aiming to host Gay Games XII in 2026, along with Munich, Germany and Valencia, Spain.  (Guadalajara also applied to host the 2022 games, but lost out to Hong Kong.)

Jalisco Social Development Coordinator Anna Bárbara Casillas García said if selected to host the event, Guadalajara will have “an opportunity to promote the construction of societies without discrimination or hatred, where all sexual orientations and identities are accepted.”

The host city for Gay Games XII will be announced in February of 2022.

Guadalajara currently holds the title of the Sports Capital of the World and next year will also be the World Book Capital.
