Music the main dish on GDL cultural menu

With the end of Covid’s fourth wave not far off, now may be the time for culture-starved denizens to plan ahead.

pg5Music fans, in particular, have plenty of options coming up in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, with Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) and State Choir concerts, as well as jazz recitals all on the menu.  Here’s a sample of what’s ahead.

CLASSICS: The OFJ begins its 2022 winter season at the Teatro Degollado Sunday, February 20, 12:30 p.m. with a program featuring works by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Brahms. New OFJ Music Director José Luis Castillo also conducts the second program (Debussy, Dukas, Saint-Saëns and Ravel)  on Thursday, February 24, 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, February 27, 12:30 p.m., and the third program on Thursday, March 10, and Sunday, March 13 (Moncayo, Prokofiev and Schubert), at the same times.

Wedged in between these shows, the OFJ heads to the Expo Guadalajara on Saturday, March 5, to participate in the Final Fantasy Vii Remake Orchestra World Tour, a multimedia concert of new symphonic arrangements based on composer Nobuo Uematsu’s Final Fantasy VII music, and the theme song “Hollow.” This concert will be performed by the OFJ and a chorus of around 100, led by Grammy-winning conductor Arnie Roth. Prices for this special event range from 805 to 2,530 pesos. Ticket prices for regular concerts at the Degollado are more affordable: 90 to 250 pesos.
