GDL kicks off Book Capital year

Guadalajara officially took the mantle as 2022 World Book Capital in a ceremony held at the Cabañas Cultural Institute on April 23, World Book Day.

pg3aBesides local and federal dignitaries, invitees included representatives from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), as well as Tbilisi, Georgia (World Book Capital 2021) and Accra, Ghana (World Book Capital 2023).

Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus said 1,300 literary-based activities are planned over the coming months, with the focus on “the recuperation of public spaces through reading, social cohesion, and the strengthening of neighborhood identity.”
