Celebrated GDL chamber orchestra to begin new season

Lovers of opera should take note that the Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra, accompanied by four talented soloists, will headline an opera gala with more than 100 performers on stage at the Conjunto de las Artes Escenicas.

Two concerts are scheduled, on Saturday, February 4 (sold out) and Tuesday, February 7, 7:30 p.m.

The program brings together classic overtures and arias from some of the world’s most emblematic operas composed by greats such as Mozart, Verdi, Rossini, Puccini, Donizzeti and Bizet.

Joining the orchestra and solo singers will be the Chamber Choir from the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) Music Department, conducted by Wilmia Verrier and Yunior Medrano. The soloists are Lorena Flores, soprano; Vanessa Jara, mezzo-soprano, Ángel Ruz, tenor and Carlos López, baritone.

This much anticipated concert heralds the start of the Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra’s 2023 season. Founded in 2007, it is now considered one of the finest of its kind in Mexico, placing an emphasis on the investigation and presentation of new works by Latin American and Mexican composers.

The orchestra is sponsored by the UdeG, so ticket prices for their presentations are very accessible, costing from 80 to 120 pesos.

The following concert given by the orchestra will be on Saturday, February 25, with a program to be announced.
