The Auditorio de la Ribera has once again unveiled La Historia de la Salvación, a one-of-a-kind take on traditional Mexican nativities.
The display/contest comprises individual scenes depicting key episodes of Biblical Scripture created by local schools, church groups and public institutions.
The familiar stories run the gamut from Adam and Eve falling from grace in the Garden Eden, the Tower of Babel and David battling Goliath, to the entire life story of Jesus Christ, from birth, through childhood, his adult teachings, crucifixion and resurrection.
The participants used a collection of figures loaned from the town of San Antonio Tlayacapan. They were allotted the specific themes by lottery.
A panel of judges awarded first place and a 1,500-peso cash prize to Chapala’s Historical Archives for the segment on the Last Days of Christ; 1,000 pesos for second place to the MMJC church group for the scenes of Jesus’ Childhood and Youth; and third place, plus 500 pesos, to the Youth Disciples of Christ for the Old Testament sequence spanning Creation through the Great Flood.
