Famed mandolinist to conclude Viva! season

Internationally recognized mandolinist Alon Sariel will perform at Viva la Musica’s final spring concert Thursday, March 28, 7 p.m. in the Haus der Musik.

By special request he will be playing the beautiful Partita No 2 Chaconne by J.S. Bach arranged for mandolin. He performs regularly as a soloist on the lute and the mandolin, and as a member of various ensembles in Europe, the United States, the Middle East and the Far East. As a soloist and conductor his recent engagements include the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Tel Aviv Soloists and the Jerusalem Radio Symphony Orchestra. Sariel performs at early music festivals and has had many compositions dedicated to him. He gives master classes at leading universities in Europe and Mexico.

Sariel will play with outstanding early-music keyboard artist Michael Tsalka. Together they will play works for piano and mandolin by Beethoven and Hummel, as well as more recent works by Mexican composer Leonardo Coral and Israeli composer Yehezkei Braun,

A 6:15 p.m. champagne reception will precede the 7 p.m. concert.
