Art Battle pits 12 painters in a duel in the round

Twelve of the lakeside area’s best artists will compete in the first Art Battle Chapala across three fast-paced rounds for audience votes and a chance to go on to the Art Battle National Tournament.

pg8The excitement is set for Saturday, August 24, 4 to 8 p.m. on the terraza at Hotel Real de Chapala. The audience will circle the competitors in each round, and choose their favorites using an app, to move forward.

After the final round, only one champion will remain. The winning prize is 2,000 pesos. Audience members can take home a piece of the action by bidding on their favorite paintings in the silent auction, 50 percent of which goes to the artist.

These competitors — mostly from Chapala and a few from Guadalajara — are a mix of veteran professional artists and emerging talents who want to share their processes and talent with a new audience.

Featured competitors at the first Art Battle Chapala include Guadalajara artist Aldo Gonzalez Aguilar, who said he is “inspired by the opportunity for learning more techniques” and Karla Paola Patiño Nuño, who is most looking forward to “the connection with the spectator during the creative process” at this unique event.

At press time there are still three spots open for participating artists. Email artbattle.com/artists to enter.
