‘Living Blood’ fest accents roots of Mexican identity

Ajijic’s seventh Festival Cultural Sangre Viva celebrates Mexico’s ancestral roots with a program of diverse activities running Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.

pg13Centered at the village plaza, the Living Blood fest opens Friday, 5 p.m., with a traditional indigenous ritual ceremony. Live entertainment continues with the Yuku Percusiones 100 drums performance, 6 p.m.; a puppet show by Títeres La Cucaracha, 7 p.m.¸ and Grupo Ixim with music and dance on the theme of lake goddess Michicihualli, 8 p.m.

The line-up for Saturday starts with pre-Hispanic fusion music by Totome, 7 p.m.; Grupo Ixim performing “The Creation of Sounds,” 8 p.m; and ska-reggae sounds by Leones Negros y Atletas Campesinos, 9 p.m.
