Claudia Nery: painting from her vibrant imagination

When it comes to her paintings, Claudia Nery’s work is fluid and ever changing. She adapts her art based on her mood, living in the moment through her paints.

pg13“There are no rules,” she says.  “I like to change my techniques and the textures from one painting to another.”

Every night when she is in that hazy but conscious place between awake and asleep, Nery says she closes her eyes and lets her imagination run free. Images of the human form, Mexican symbols, animals, faces, shapes, masks, and even monsters, dance through her mind before she drifts off to sleep. Once in her Riberas del Pilar home studio, her true sanctuary, she recollects these vibrant images and they spill onto canvas or paper in varying styles, textures and colors.

Nery is a prolific painter, working anywhere from four to seven hours a day, using only oil. All of her work is completely original, as she does not believe in giclées or prints.

“Collectors are often interested in duplicates of my work, but I struggle with duplicating the same composition.”
