Hosting the Festival del Lago students is a gift that keeps on giving

Those living in and around the center of Ajijic may have noticed an influx of young people walking the sidewalks with instruments slung over their shoulders during the past few weeks.

The reason: some 75 musicians had descended on the village for the Festival del Lago, to participate in ensemble rehearsals, one-on-one instruction, hours of individual practice, master classes, musical reading parties, a fundraising gala and interactions with the generous benefactors of this international music academy.

More than 80 households stepped up this year to provide accommodation for the students, faculty and staff—the largest gathering of all the four summer festivals staged in Ajijic.

Ann Flaningham said she is thrilled to be a host every year.  “For many years I had the same musician stay with me because of my grand piano. This year a violinist is staying with me. Besides getting to hear the music fill my home, the best part is getting to know the students from other cultures.”
