Barrels of laughs at Bare Stage Theatre

Bare Stage Theatre’s September production is “Weekend Comedy.”

pg21aA surprise awaits two couples when they get stranded together on a holiday weekend. Much laughter and violence ensues as the antics get crazier. The couples compete for best lifestyle and the fun is for the voyeur.

Director Roseann Wilshere says: “The playwrights have managed to create the best mix of comedy with a real grasp of human nature.”

Said the Calgary Sun: “Contemporary and spunky — Weekend Comedy’s home-spun humor strikes chords regardless of a viewer’s age and the laughter it kindles is as warm and spontaneous as the play’s dialogue and situations.”

The older couple is married, the younger couple is not. The audience becomes a voyeur to the comedic clash between generations and ideas. The show is a reminder that growing older doesn’t mean we must get set in our ways, take each other for granted or forget to stop and smell the roses while we still can.

Playwrights Sam and Jeanne Bobrick have co-authored over 40 plays, including “Norman, Is That You?,” “Murder at the Howard Johnsons,” and “Wally’s Café,” as well as penned TV hits like “The Andy Griffith Show,” “Gomer Pyle USMC” and “The Flintstones.”

Wilshere directs Rosann Balbontin, Jon DeYoung, Douglas Pinkerton and Florette Schnelle.

Shows are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 23, 24 and 25; doors and bar open at 3 p.m., curtain is at 4. Seats are held until 3:50 p.m. Auditorium curtains will be open for air flow.
