A Carnaval-themed dinner-dance is set for Friday, February 28, as a fundraiser for the San Antonio Tlayacapan mural beautification project. The event will take place at Sunrise Restaurant starting at 7 p.m., with dinner service at 9 p.m.
Live entertainment will feature Mariachi Juvenil Axixic, along with music by Ricardo and Blanca.
More than a dozen Lakeside artists are transforming the exterior walls of Escuela Primaria Cuauhtémoc with murals depicting village life and traditions, using various artistic techniques. The project also includes two bas-relief panels featuring colorful ceramic plaques of mystical alebrijes and tonás, protective creatures from Mexican folklore.
Several murals have already been completed, while others are in progress as funding for art materials becomes available. Participating artists are donating their time and talent.
Tickets for the Carnaval bash are available at Sunrise Restaurant (Hidalgo 119, on the highway), the Delegación office, and MOCA Art Gallery in San Antonio plaza. The cost is 400 pesos per person. To secure a spot, reservations can be made by calling 376-766-1287 or 33-1723-3440. Mardi Gras costumes are optional.
Another way to support the project is by sponsoring an alebrije or toná plaque with a minimum donation of 500 pesos, payable at the Delegación office.
