Met Live’s ‘Aida’ at LLT

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) will host New York Metropolitan Opera’s production of the iconic Italian opera “Aida”—the fifth such production in LLT’s nine-opera season—March 8, 9, and 10.

pg20dVerdi’s “Aida” premiered in 1871 and quickly earned its rightful berth among the pantheon of most beloved operas ever. It recounts the tragic tale of Ramadés, Egypt’s supreme commander and heir, who falls in love with a slave, Aida, the disguised Ethiopian princess, whose father invades to save her. Ramadeés must choose between her and his betrothed, the Pharaoh’s daughter. Meanwhile, Aida loves Ramadés, but must decide to betray him or her father and her homeland.

Met Live praised Verdi’s achievement: “Few operas have matched Aida in its exploration of the conflict of private emotion and public duty, and perhaps no other has remained to the present day so unanimously appreciated by audiences and critics alike.”

In this production, soprano Angel Blue makes her long-awaited Met debut, which Opera Now extolled: “[Her] tone is lush and luscious; her high pianissimo simply beautiful. Her “Ritorna Vincitor” was ideal, expressing Aida’s inner turbulence as well as her devout supplication.”

This production of ‘Aida’ was filmed live at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, and will be shown with Lakeside Little Theatre’s state of the art projection and sound systems with English subtitles. All shows begin at 4 p.m. Tickets, 350 pesos, are available at lakesidelittletheatre.com and before the shows at the box office. Anyone showing a Mexican INE at the box office will receive a 100-peso discount.
