Get Back to the Rooftop: Fab Four tribute benefits Niños Incapacitados

Marking 57 years since the historic, final Beatles “rooftop” concert on London’s Savile Row, the Rooftop Romeos will perform Fab Four music and more twice: Monday and Tuesday, January 26 and 27, on the shaded, second-floor deck at El Bar Co. restaurant. Doors open at 2 p.m., concerts begin at 3 p.m.

pg15bThe fundraisers benefit Niños Incapacitados, Lakeside’s largest and longest-serving local charity, which marks its 52nd anniversary this year.

In past years, ticket demand has outstripped patio capacity, leading to third concerts to meet demand. If Monday’s and Tuesday’s concerts sell out soon, as hoped, Niños Incapacitados would consider Wednesday, January 28, for another rooftop concert at El Bar Co. Check the website for any updates.

Tickets, 500 pesos, must be purchased in advance, as seating is limited. To purchase tickets and find out more about the charity, go to programaninos.com.

Drawing prizes include “Made in Liverpool” T-shirts purchased directly from Liverpool’s famed Cavern Club, where the group first played together as “The Beatles” on February 9, 1961. T-shirts were donated by a Niños supporter.

On the backside of one T-shirt is a list of dozens of other famous bands that played the Cavern Club since 1957, including The Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John and Eric Clapton.

Drinks and food can be purchased at the event. El Bar Co. in Ajijic is located on the mountainside of the Carretera, just west of the Pemex station.

Since 1974, Niños Incapacitados has been a nonprofit, volunteer group that helps government-qualified Mexican families pay ongoing and one-time major medical expenses for children with serious disabilities or life-threatening illnesses, such as brain cancer, strokes and mobility issues. It serves families throughout Lakeside, from Chapala to Jocotepec.
