‘Four  Seasons’

Armus Productions presents “Vivaldi Four Seasons,” a concert featuring first-rate soloists, supported by former members of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and local musicians, at the Auditorio de la Ribera on Thursday, October 15, 7 p.m.

The principals are violinist Ulises Arreola, cellist Orlando Idrovo and harpsichordist Hans Peters of Germany, who resides in Ajijic. All have a distinguished international pedigree.

The baroque program will include segments from Vivaldi’s iconic “Four Seasons,” as well as sonatas and works by Albinoni, Tartini and others.

Discounted tickets at 200 pesos are on sale Sunday, October 11, from 5 p.m. at the auditorium, when live music will be provided on the esplanade. Tickets are also available from  Diane Pearl Colecciones. The price at the door will be 250 pesos.  

Los Cantantes

The Los Cantantes del Lago biannual concert Showstoppers 11, slated for Sunday, October 25, 4 p.m., is scheduled to raise funds to bankroll the popular group’s upcoming tour of Cuba set for spring 2016. 

The annual show is always sold out. In addition to the exceptional group numbers, Los Cantantes members will be featured in solos, duets and quartets, presenting songs ranging from comedic to ballads.  

Ken Yakiwchuk will take the microphone to emcee the event while Timothy G. Ruff Welch accompanies the group.

Piano Four Hands

Viva la Musica presents a concert of classical piano music for four hands featuring virtuso pianists Blandine Tricot and Marita Zimmer on Thursday, October 22, 7 p.m., at the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago.  

France’s Tricot began studying music at age six. At 15 she won first prize in a piano and chamber music competition at Orleans Conservatory. She studied in Paris and the Lyon Conservatory, where she was unanimously awarded the Gold Medal. Tricot, professor of piano at the University of Guadalajara music school and Semper Altius Music School in Zapopan, has played in chamber groups and solo recitals in Europe, Central and South America. 

Zimmer was born in East Germany where she started her piano studies at the age of 7. She won prizes in the German National Youth Music competition, both as a soloist and as a member of a chamber group. She has been a professor at the Guadalajara music school since 2003.

Tickets for the concert are 200 pesos. They are available at the Lake Chapala Society on Thursday and Fridays, from 10 a.m. until noon, at Diane Pearl Colecciones and at the auditorium before the concert. 

Musical Bus Trips

Local residents can still book spaces on Viva la Musica chartered bus trips to Guadalajara to see Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) fall season concerts, as well as spectacular Live from the Met opera simulcasts.

Viva members pay 300 pesos per trip; non members are charged 400 pesos. All buses leave from east of Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic. 

The last JPO trip of the month to Guadalajara’s Teatro Guadalajara leaves on Friday, October 16, 4:30 p.m. Composers featured at the concert are Bartok, Grofe, Schuman and Moncayo. 

The next trip to the Live from the Met simulcasts at the Teatro Diana leaves from lakeside on Saturday, October 17, 10:30 a.m. Aleksandr Antonenko will sing the title role in Verdi’s “Othello.”

The final trip to the opera is on Saturday, October 31. Johan Botha plays the title role in Wagner’s “Tannhauser,” while soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek is Elisabeth. Saturday, October 31. The opera is longer than most, so the bus leaves at 8:30 a.m.
