Theater workshop

The Centro Cultural Ajijic will offer an introduction to theater workshop in Spanish starting Saturday, May 12, running each Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Edgar Cueto will present the course, which will cover theory, history, acting methods, methodology, body, voice and emotion, concentration, relaxation before the scene and improvisation.

pg17aCueto has a degree in Artes Escenicas para la Expresion Teatral from the University of Guadalajara, as well as six years’ experience in theater as a dramaturgist, producer, director and actor. For more information, call the center at (376) 766-2373.

Film Aficionados

Lake Chapala Society members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday at 2 p.m.

On May 17, “In The Fade” (Auf Dem Nichts) from Germany will be shown. Katja’s life collapses after the death of her husband and son in a bomb attack. After a time of mourning and injustice, she seeks revenge. Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. (101 minutes).

INBA course at CCGG

The Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes will hold a course on artistic disciplines for children and young people ages 6 to 21 at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo (CCGG). The program will include music, dance, theater and both plastic and visual arts.

Belly Dance

The Ballet Raqs Sharqui from Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos together with the Ballet Atequiza, Ballet Raqs Yumeria and Tribu Prismata offer a festival of belly dance at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Saturday, May 19, 5 p.m. Special guests include Tracy Rhaj and Sandra Cuevas.

Dad’s Day

pg17bA Mexican fiesta with music for listening and dancing by El Michoacano Miguel Alonso, Lupita Jimenez, Lucha y Gorge, Elbert Moguel and Strwek and Mike Luna and his 039 Group will celebrate dads the night before Fathers Day, Saturday, June 9, 7 p.m. at the Salon de Eventos La Huerta in West Ajijic.

Nostalgia

Piano and music theory professor Mauricio Allera gives a piano recital together with the Chapala Chamber Orchestra, entitled Piano Nostalgia, Saturday, May 19, 8 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo. Tickets are 100 pesos.

Allera has studied at the Academia Yamaha, Academia de Acapella, the Escuela Superior de Musica Sagrada, the Conserviatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Michocacan and last year in France at the University of Rennes and the Rennes Conservatory. He has a degree in Gregorian Chants and has taught piano and music theory at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo for two years.
