Rondalla de Chapala
Ajijic’s La Bodega restaurant will host a romantic dinner with live entertainment by La Rondalla de Chapala Friday, May 18, 6 p.m., as a fundraiser for local pilot-in-training Julio Raygoza Villanueva.
La Rondalla de Chapala is an all-male vocal and acoustic instrumental group renowned for its repertoire of traditional Mexican music. Tickets, 250 pesos, are on sale at the Página office, upstairs at Avenida Madero 415-A, next door to the OXXO store at Chapala’s main intersection.
African rhythms
Enjoy learning traditional African dance rhythms with live drums at a workshop offered by Efrain Kasin and Nicole Belinne, Saturday, May 19 through Monday, May 21, 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is 500 pesos for all three days or 200 pesos per day. Belly Dance
The Ballet Raqs Sharqui from Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, together with Ballet Atequiza, Ballet Raqs Yumeria and Tribu Prismata, offer a festival of belly dance at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Saturday, May 19, 5 p.m. Special guests include Tracy Rhaj and Sandra Cuevas.

Piano nostalgia concert
Piano and music theory professor Mauricio Allera will give a piano recital together with the Chapala Chamber Orchestra, entitled Piano Nostalgia, Saturday, May 19, 8 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo. Tickets are 100 pesos.
Allera has studied at the Academia Yamaha, Academia de Acapella, the Escuela Superior de Musica Sagrada, the Conservatorio de las Rosas in Morelia, Michocacan and last year in France at the University of Rennes and the Rennes Conservatory. He has a degree in Gregorian Chants and has taught piano and music theory at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo for two years.
Film Aficionados
Lake Chapala Society members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday at 2 p.m.
On May 24, “The Meyerowitz Stories” will be shown. An estranged family gathers together in New York for an event celebrating the artistic work of their father, played by Dustin Hoffman. Also featuring Adam Sandler and Emma Thompson. (110 minutes).
INBA course
The Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes will hold a course on artistic disciplines for children and young people aged 6 to 21 at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo. The program will include music, dance, theater and both plastic and visual arts.

Dad’s Day
A Mexican fiesta with music for listening and dancing by El Michoacano Miguel Alonso, Lupita Jimenez, Lucha y Gorge, Elbert Moguel and Strwek and Mike Luna and his 039 Group will celebrate dads the night before Fathers Day, Saturday, June 9, 7 p.m. at the Salon de Eventos La Huerta in West Ajijic.

Sign up for Art Camp
Now is time to get your favorite young person to sign up for the 6th Annual Art Camp, sponsored by the Lake Chapala Society’s Children’s Art program. The camp will run from Monday, July 30 to Friday, August 3, 10 a.m. to noon daily. Registration has already begun and runs through July 28, but there are only 130 spaces available. Children who attend the program’s classes on Saturdays during the year are given priority. This annual project wouldn’t be possible without the generous financial support of the Ajijic Society of the Arts (ASA) and the dedication of its members, who come every day to help with the workshops. This year, the workshops consist of activities with acrylics, watercolor, clay modeling, kite-making and mosaics, drawing, daily projects for the little ones. The kids are offered a small snack at the end of each day.
