LLT summer fundraiser
Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) will present “Spalding Gray – Terrors of Pleasure,” Saturday, June 16, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 17, 4 p.m.
Spalding Gray was a U.S. actor and writer, best known for the autobiographical monologues that he wrote and performed for the theater in the 1980s and 1990s. Gray’s monologues are an American treasure, giving voice to our unspoken fears and ambitions. When Gray first bought his little house in the Catskill Mountains he had no idea what terrors lay ahead of him. The only thing that saved the situation from becoming a total disaster was being able to tell a story about it, and this is that story, the story of “the little house that cried.”
Directed by Peggy Lord Chilton, the sole cast member is Ed Tasca, a novelist, playwright and member of the Dramatist’s Guild. He currently has two full-length plays published, one in the United States and one in England. Since arriving in Mexico, Tasca has appeared in several LLT productions, including his own play, “Mark Twain, UnCensored” in 2016.
Jam B Fest
Local promotors in the arts and music scene are holding a massive cultural jam in the gardens of the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala Saturday, June 16, from noon to 11 p.m. With the idea to promote the center, local talent and motivate students of the arts and music, Jam B Fest will offer an all-day visual and audible experience. Artists are invited to bring their work to show and meet other artists. Musicians of all stripes can come and jam with their fellows. The art will be displayed until 7 p.m. under a large tent structure in case of inclement weather. Artists who wish to show their work are asked to donate a piece to sell in order to help fund the event.
Invited artists include photographer Andrea Baez Jimenez, the Sweet Cotton Collective doll makers, graphic artist Ana Paula Camacho “Kikimoon” and artists Adriana Danela Alvarez Ceceñas and Nataly Perez Santana.
Invited musicians include Rodrigo Leal and Hugo Ramos from noon to 1 p.m., Sebastian Barrios on acoustic guitar from 1-2:45 p.m., the Conjunto de la Orquesta Tipica de Chapala from 4-6 p.m., Grupo Amate from 6:20-6:45 p.m., Ukuleles de la Ribera from 6:45-7:45 p.m. and an open jam session from 7:45-10 p.m.
Also on tap will be art workshops for children, including Danza Mexicatl and Songs in Nahuatl by Monica Zaira Masini Aguilera from 1 to1:45 p.m.; illustration focused on the basis of design of personages and the development of conceptional art by Sebastian Preciado Ramirez from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and movement for all, ballet techniques and fun by Monica Masini from 5 to 5:45 p.m.
Twenty plants will be donated to the Centro Cultural to spiff up its garden area. Vegetarian hamburgers, agua fresca, beer and wine will also be sold.

Guanajuato musicians Tango Insurgente present a concert Saturday, June 16, 6 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. Tickets are 120 pesos at the door.
Viva JPO bus trips
Viva la Musica offers three summer trips to Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado to hear the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra. The first is Sunday, June 17 when Marco Parisotto will conduct the JPO in Gustav Mahler’s Sixth Symphony “The Tragic.” Bus departs at 10:30 a.m. for the 12:30 p.m. performance.
On Thursday, July 5, the JPO will offer up Mozart’s Concerto for Three Pianos, Liszt’s Symphonic Poem and Beethoven’s bombastic “Wellington’s Victory.” The group will stop for
dinner in the restaurant district of Guadalajara. Bus departs at 4:30 p.m. and the performance is at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 15 the JPO presents Brahms’ Violin Concerto with virtuoso Korean-American Esther Yoo and Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, with Marco Parisotto conducting. Bus departs at 10:30 a.m. for the 12:30 p.m. performance.

Film Aficionados
Lake Chapala Society members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday at 2 p.m. June 21, “Quiz Show” will be shown. A young lawyer investigates a potentially fixed game show. (128 minutes).
Classical concert
A free University of Guadalajara-sponsored piano concert at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala will be performed by Susana Bueno Thursday, June 28, 7 p.m.
Folkloric dance gala
The Ballet Folclorico del Ayuntamiento de Guadalajara, under the direction of Zayda Zamudio, will perform at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Thursday, June 28, 6 p.m. Tickets, 80 pesos, are available at the Auditorio or call Cristian at 331-874-8044.
Naked Stage
Lila Wells directs the next production by the Naked Stage Readers Theater, “A Doll’s House, Part 2.” The production stars Fred Koesling, Kathleen Pharis, Sharon Lowry and Jennifer Wisniewski. French crooners
Les Femmes de Serge perform songs in French, Saturday, June 30, 6 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. Tickets are 100 pesos in advance and 120 pesos at the door.
Bravo! Theatre
“Visiting Mr. Green” is a funny, emotional and compelling story about what tears us apart and what brings us back together.
This production at Bravo Theatre is directed by Jayme Littlejohn and stars Roger Larson, last seen in “Trying” at Bravo, and Ken Yakiwchuk, last seen in “Quality of Life” at Naked Stage. They have brought this show to life twice before and this time the performance is in loving memory of Roger’s partner Phil Shepherd, as a benefit to help defray medical expenses.
The show got a rave review comparing it to an off-Broadway production and audiences have clamored for a reprise run.
Show dates are July 7, 8, 14 and 15. LCS Music Fest
The Lake Chapala Society will hold another of its popular Music Fests, Saturday, July 14, 2:30-7 p.m., featuring the one and only Woodstock Band and The Crooners. Summer food fare like hotdogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob and cakes will be available. A cash bar will operate.
Tickets, 150 pesos for members and 180 pesos for nonmembers, are on sale at LCS and Diane Pearl. Tickets at the gate on the day of the event are 200 pesos. Food and drink are not included in the entry price.
