Chapala exhibits

Photographer Rocío Lojero will showcase 22 images in a new exhibit opening Saturday, July 6, 5 p.m., at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia gallery, Avenida Madero at Hidalgo, Chapala.

The show is titled Tiempos del Alma (Times of the Soul) and encompasses three themes.

Selections from the La Moreña collection feature models posed inside La Moreña Museum in the Jalisco town of La Barca.

For Penachos, Lojero captured nude models wearing stunning feathered Indian headdresses that were used during Ajijic’s recent Sangre Viva festival.

Las Catrinas de los Pintores offers a sampling of a project still in the works that will focus on local painters Miguel Mora and Cathy Chalvignac, and their respective interpretations of emblematic Dia de Muertos figures.  The exhibit runs through July 31.

Guitar classes

Jimmy Galloway, who plays every Monday at Perry’s Pizza, 5:30 to 8 p.m., is also offering free guitar classes to Mexican students.

Donations will be given to a local charity focusing on children, according to Perry. Printouts for interested students are available at Perry’s.

Exhibit continues

A collection of 66 colorful hangings inspired by poetry, brought to the Centro Cultural de Ajijic for last weekend’s Pre-Textos del Solsticio Colloquium, will remain on display in the second floor gallery through Wednesday, July 10.  The complete texts of most of the poems that were interpreted in myriad ways by participating artists are posted near the pendants.

Plein Air Paint Out

Atlanta rhythms

A special evening of music is planned at Perry’s Pizza Thursday, July 11. Nashville sensation Jimmy Galloway welcomes two friends from Atlanta Georgia to play in the round.

An “In the Round” experience is a songwriter circle made popular in Nashville and is usually done with folk and Americana music. Come see some of the finest musicians in the southeast. Billy Gewin and Lindsay Petsch perform their own original material and tell stories about their songs and their friendships.

Film Aficionados

Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday, 2 p.m.

On July 11, “A Time for Drunken Horses” (2000, Iran) will be screened. Young Kurdish siblings try to save the youngest in the family who is seriously ill. Winner of the Cannes Film Festival. (90 minutes.)
