Bravo Theatre fundraiser

Mariachi Real Axixic and the Children’s Mariachi perform Sunday, July 14, 4 p.m. at a fundraiser for the Bravo Theatre lighting and sound system at its new location at Hidalgo 441 in Riberas del Pilar, just west of Have Hammers and Todo Bueno.

Art show

La Floresta Jardin del Arte will host its second anniversary outdoor art show, Sunday, July 14, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  in the park next to the Castle in La Floresta.

Guitar classes

Jimmy Galloway, who plays every Monday at Perry’s Pizza, 5:30 to 8 p.m., is also offering free guitar classes to Mexican students. A class for advanced students and also a focus on music gear will be held Tuesday, July 23, 6 to 8 p.m.  Galloway teaches at the Atlanta Institute of Music in Georgia.

Art exhibit

The works of Linda Kauffman will be on exhibit at the Teocintle Maiz restaurant, Constitucion 52, Ajijic, with an opening Wednesday, July 17, 4 to 6 pm.

Film Aficionados

Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday, 2 p.m.

On July 18, “The Guilty” (2018, Denmark) will be screened. A police office  assigned to alarm dispatch duty enters a race against time when he answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. The film won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018. (85 minutes.)

Bare Stage Theatre

“The Men’s Foursome” by Norm Foster is next up at the Bare Stage, Friday to Sunday, July 26 to 28. Old friends, 18 holes of golf and five beers before 10 a.m. Rick, Ted, Donnie and Cameron are home for their fifteen-year college reunion; a great time to go out for a game of golf and catch up on each other’s lives. Unlike their college days, the conversation doesn’t include talk of beer and final exams, but of colonoscopies, home-security systems, alcoholism, Buddhism and more.

Directed by Don Chaloner, the cast is Jon De Young, Graham Miller, Ed Tasca and Tony Wilshere.

If you saw “The Women’s Foursome,” last month, don’t miss this chance to see the men and pick the better of the all-female and all-male casts fromthe parallel plays at the end of the production.The winning male or female cast will be announced at the Bare Stage performances scheduled for August. Prizes for the starring actors will be given out at the company’s first annual costume party planned for October.

Community Orchestra

The Lake Chapala Community Orchestra performs Sunday, July 28, 3 p.m., with Michael Reason conducting the 40-piece orchestra at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar.

Concert highlights include guest soloist, Victor Garcia, a talented local violinist, playing the Autumn Concerto from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons.”  Audience participation will also be requested during the performance of the famous “Toy Symphony” by Leopold Mozart (Wolfgang’s Dad!). Volunteers may be asked to play a cuckoo whistle, bird warbler, toy trumpet or a very obnoxious rattle. No experience is required, only the ability to have fun and play the instrument when the conductor points at you.

Fiber arts classes

Brad Mowers offers six fiber arts classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning August 5 in Chapala.

A maximum of six students per class will allow you to get your hands on the essentials of fiber arts, working with a Mayan paddle and spinner to spin the fiber into yarn. Color them with traditional Mexican natural dyes and weave your yarn on a tapestry loom. Looms, tools and materials will be for sale after the last class. Talent Show

The School for Special Children is looking for contestants to participate in talent shows to be held at the Spotlight Club during the next high season.

Two shows per month, each featuring six contestants, will be held November through January. The six top contestants will vie for a 25,000-peso prize at the final talent show to be held at the Auditorio de la Ribera in February.

Auditions will be held Sunday, September 1 and Sunday, September 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Spotlight Club. Participants must supply a resume, recent photo and any music, props or other things needed for their performance. All ages and nationalities are welcome to apply.
